Thanks to the enthusiastic leadership efforts of Susan Waterloo, Janell Wilson, and Andrea Farr Capizzi, as well as other Michael Silver & Company CPA managers and employees, a wide variety of donations, including food, personal care, kitchen, cooking, and other valuable household items, were collected for the TLS Food Pantry and for the New Horizons Center. In addition, a total of $500 in cash and checks was also generously donated.
On Friday, December 12, Andrea Farr Capizzi reported on her experience visiting the TLS offices to drop off the donations:
“When I arrived, I was greeted by a huge hand-painted American Flag and three friendly veterans. When I told them I was there to drop off some donations from Michael Silver & Company CPAs, they began thanking us. Five vets followed me out to my fully loaded car and were very surprised at the amount of goods that were being donated. As they helped unload, I heard, ‘Wow, sheets, razors!’
I was surprised at how excited the vets were to receive these everyday household items. Their gratefulness humbled me. When I presented the cash donations to the caseworker on duty, she was very, very thankful, as were the vets.
While I enjoyed a cup of coffee, one of the vets received a call for a job, and I heard him say, ‘I’ll take any shift!’ The day I was there, twenty vets were being helped back to independent living by two caseworkers and a limited staff. I witnessed our donations go directly into the kitchen cabinets and the pantry. They must have expressed their thanks no less than fifty times! We could not have picked a more grateful or worthy charity.”
