Judy Mason, CPA, CVA, CEPA joined MichaelSilver in 1995. Prior to joining the Firm, she was a business owner/partner in an advertising and public relations firm, where she directed all financial services. She also served as the Manager of Planning and Control for a Fortune 500 company.

Judy has over 25 years of business consulting, tax, accounting, and compliance experience, serving closely-held and start-up businesses, entrepreneurial and family-owned companies, their owners and families. Judy is a member of the management consulting team including heading up the exit planning and business valuation departments.

Her expertise includes guiding business owners through the value acceleration and exit planning process.  She also has expertise in federal, state, and local taxation, directing clients through the complexities of conducting business in multiple states, particularly as it relates to income, sales, use, and other taxes. She has successfully managed a broad range of federal income and state sales and use tax audits.

Having written multiple articles on tax planning issues and strategies for a variety of professional journals, trade publications, and client newsletters, including the Chicago Automobile Trade Association, Judy has also presented to various organizations and numerous events regarding tax and valuation topics.

Judy is active in her community and is involved in multiple charitable organizations, serving in various leadership positions including President, Treasurer, and Board Member.

Preparing for Tax Changes in 2025

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017 significantly changed the Internal Revenue Code and lowered tax rates for individuals and businesses. Many of the TCJA’s changes will expire at the end of 2025 unless Congress and the President act to extend them or make them permanent. Whether this will happen largely depends on the outcome of the November elections. It is important to be prepared to take action should the sunset of these provisions occur.
